Reconsidering Blogging

For some reason I have immense problems writing bloggy stuff while sitting at my desk. So I grabbed my laptop and sat down in the couch and promptly got a strong urge to fall asleep. The comfy couch strikes again! But before I collapse I’ll try to squeeze out an actual blog entry.

The ten entries currently on the front page stretch back a year. The entry before this one was written six months ago. That’s… not really a good update frequency. So for the last week or so I’ve been reconsidering the whole format for this site.

It’s easy for me to tell why I’m not writing more: there’s just not a whole lot of stuff going on in my life. I was way more active back when I was in school and actually did stuff.

So writing full-blown blog entries is a no-go in my current situation. I have, however, been quite active on Twitter lately. That’s a format that feels a lot more comfortable for me now — bite-sized observations condensed into less than 140 characters.

Earth Hour

So the Earth Hour was this weekend. I missed it completely. Which in my opinion wouldn’t really have mattered anyway. The amount of energy saved can be discussed.

And the end of the hour in Sydney was celebrated with fireworks. Yeah, good job there. “We saved energy! Let’s celebrate this by polluting the environment!”

Want to do something for nature? Go outside, take a walk, pick up garbage for an hour. Of course, that involves some actual work instead of turning off most of your lights and patting yourself on the back, so I guess that’ll never get popular.

Things I Don’t Like About iTunes

  • I want a “remove duplicate entries” option for playlists. I quite often drag good tunes to various playlists, but I’m never sure if I already have the song there.
  • I want the option to have iTunes play the currently selected track after the current one is finished, like Foobar does.
  • Retarded tag writing. It writes its gain info as a comment, for crying out loud! Why can’t iTunes make its own ID3 field called iTunesGain or something and store the data there?
  • And on the topic of audio gain, use a commonly accepted standard instead to be compatible with lots of other players.
  • Reshuffling the party list (with 25 songs) takes forever when the music is on an SMB mount. Why?
  • Stop using 100MB of memory!
