Backyard zen garden

Redesigning again. This time I’ve applied a rule that I will follow: no changes in the HTML. This will be a redesign by CSS only. Got inspired by the CSS Zen Garden for that thought, and Mezzoblue for some layout ideas.

A murder of blogs

So it seems that Google finally did something about blogs in their index. Previously, I was the first result if you searched for my name (that would be “Johan Svensson” in case you missed it).

Now, Google first mentions my name in an RSS comment feed, of all places, on Ben Hammersley’s site. The first link to my site is on page six, linking to the Audrey project. On page 11 we have a comment I wrote on Anders Lundwall’s blog. I’ve looked all the way to page 20, but no mention of my main blog anywhere.

I used to be #1 on the term “nuisance value” as well. I still am, sort of — it now leads to this entry instead of the front page.

I googled for the names of some other bloggers — not surprisingly, Ben Hammersley and Mark Pilgrim are both #1 on their respective queries. So are Erik Stattin and Magnus Lagerstedt.

Johan Svensson isn’t exactly a rare name here in Sweden, to be honest. Both Johan and Svensson are incredibly common. A majority of the Google results for my name are either sport players or genealogy research.

Hmm. How geeky would I be if I changed my name to improve my page rank?

They must be compensating for something

The moment I laid eye on Cloud from Final Fantasy 7, I thought “wow, that’s a mighty big sword.” And it seems there has been a fascination about game characters wielding over-sized swords ever since — our next contender is Nightmare from Soul Calibur 2. Guess who he is on the picture…

Sorry, but Soma Cruz from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow beats them all. Witness the mighty dragonslayer sword, Balmung:

Big honkin' sword!

Here it is in action (465k XviD) if you wonder how the heck he swings it around.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is the proof I needed that people are still able to make great platform games, and that 2D games still live.

X-Tunes

If you use iTunes you want to try X-Tunes. It pops up a remote control for iTunes when you press and hold Apple+space (configurable combination) and disappears when you let go of either key. Much faster than opening and closing an iTunes window all the time.

Now I’m just looking for something that lets me control iTunes across the network — preferrably some kind of web interface so it’s platform independent.
