Individual concerned

“Did many people die?”
“Three thousand four hundred and ninety-two.”

“Out of how many?”

“Three hundred and ten million.”

“A small proportion.”

“It’s always one hundred per cent for the individual concerned.”

In preparation

Notes to self for whenever I get myself a Mac with OS X.

Icon Factory has cool icons and nifty OS X software. More cool icons, including some for Windows XP, from Dotico. Zeldman has an OS X Switcher guide with lots of meat to chew on. And a nice quote that I always laugh at: “[...] whole O’Reilly books have been written about font management in OS X, and the authors of those books always commit suicide after writing them.”

Stop Design probably has little to do with Mac, but it has a nice design and I’m a media whore so I mention them anyway. Besides, this is my party and I’ll dance naked on the table if I want to. Dragthing looks pretty indispensable.

Enough of that. Right now I’m thinking real hard about redesigning the sidebar. It feels too cluttered. Zeldman gave me some ideas and inspiration, but that will have to wait for the morrow. I’ll also have to think about how to make it work properly with multiple style sheets.

Biblio

I finally got my thumb out of my posterior and fixed a library card. Borrowed books:

  • Iain M. Banks, “Look to Windward”
  • Anne McCaffrey, “Freedom’s Choice”

I’ve been wanting to read both Banks’ Culture books and McCaffrey’s Freedom series for a long time.

I also borrowed some books from Helene.

  • Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett, “Good Omens”
  • Raymond E. Feist & Janny Wurts, “Daughter of the Empire”
  • Robin McKinley, “Beauty”

I really need to take a few pictures of the City Library when I have a digital camera. Amazing place. If you’re in Stockholm, you should make a quick visit there just to have a look at the building.

Like, switch!

Yup. Took me all of fifteen minutes to make a quick PHP hack that points you to different style sheets. It’s in the bottom part of the sidebar. Currently only two styles available, but I’ll make more, you can count on that… I’m already getting tired of Warranty Void, the latest one.

I always pick strange names for my style sheets. The next one will be called Nuisance Value.

Skull fission

Still no new revelations at school. Waiting for the more advanced Photoshop stuff to begin.

Still thinking about different layouts around here. My markup is just fine — simple and elegant, and looks fine in text browsers too. I can change pretty much anything from the CSS now. I looked at a style sheet switching thingie that used a javascript, but I’ll probably write something in PHP that simply calls different style sheets and stores your selection in a cookie. Shouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes to do. If it gets too boring here, I’ll do it right after lunch. Too hungry to think right now.

I’ve spent some time poking around at Andreas Lindkvists site. It’s been ages since I checked his site the last time, and there’s lots of new, cute stuff to look at. His analogue folder printout put a big smile on my face.

Boy, do I want my iPod now. It’s boring to sit here without music. I simply can’t function well for extended periods of time without music. I’ve mailed my boss now — there was apparently some trouble with my paycheck. The bank insisted that the account number I’d given them didn’t match my name, so they couldn’t transfer the money. Funny, they could do it last month… Well, as soon as I get a phone number or email from the section manager, I’ll call about it. Gives me my paycheck!

Hard hat required at all times

I’m mucking around with the stylesheets again, just in case you happen to see something freaky around here.

I just noticed that the current CSS is heavily influenced by Daring Fireball. Funny, I haven’t visited his site for several weeks.

Gosh darnit

I didn’t remember ordering snow. Especially not more than one decimeter (that’s four inches, for you weird imperialistic types) of the stuff. Where did all that come from? It sure wasn’t there when I went to bed…

The only thing I intend to write about the shuttle incident is that I don’t intend to write anything about the shuttle incident.

I think I dropped my motivation somewhere along the road. Still no work done on Audrey.
