Civilized country

My friend Magnus is more or less finished with his own little CMS thingie. I’ll nag at him until he adds an RSS feed as well. And now, blockquoth Magnus:

I played an especially intense game of Civilization3 once. I was playing some European civilisation, don’t remember which. My nearest neighbour happened to be the Persian civilisation. We got along fine.

I’m good at this game, so my civilisation was soon completely superior to the Persians when it came to military and financial strength. They hade nothing I wanted, so I left them alone. This was all fine, until we came to the industrial era. Then a patch of oil turned up in the Persian territory, near the border to mine. I badly needed this oil to be able to keep my superiority over the Persians. I had none myself.

So I started making bogus claims, veiled threats and stuff toward the Persians, until they decided they’d had enough of me, and I got my just cause to start a war. A war in which I swiftly took control over the area with the oil patch, and severely crippled the Persians military and infrastructure so they wouldn’t bother me again. Considering the world today… well, I don’t have to say much more, do I?
