Paul Graham writes interesting stuff again. He’s done a follow up to his Plan for Spam article, detailing how to improve a bayesian system by adding contextual values — differing of words whether they’re in the header or in the body of the email, for example.
Most interesting. His Plan for Spam was what made me look at bayesian logic and switch from SpamAssassin to SpamProbe.
Unfortunately, I never get any spam at all to my own domain, so I haven’t had much use for it so far.

Breki has written an interesting post about the potential of immortality in the future. This is a topic that intrigues me, especially after I read Transhuman Space. Although it’s an RPG, it is incredibly detailed and realistic.
I’ll write more once I get home.

Just to see what it’s like, I’m writing this entire entry using Dean Allen’s Textile. Incredibly smooth. Sure does feel nice not having to bother with HTML tags when you’re writing. Just write.
Actually, it feels like I’ve gone back to the old Fidonet way of writing, using underscores and asterisks for emphasis and bold text. This is also how I usually write emails; though I wrote in Fidonet long before I ever wrote my first email.
I’ve been trying to fool the Textile syntax with every dirty trick I could think of, but it skillfully dodged them all. Yup, I can’t wait for Textpattern to be released.
And should I decide to stick with MovableType, I’m sure the LazyWeb will write an input plugin for MT as soon as the new version is released.

Help me out with my markup here. Exactly why are validators complaining about the search form? I’ve been staring myself blind at this for an hour now…
Update: Ha! Problem solved! I had to place the <form> tag outside of the paragraph tag that contained the input fields. What a perfectly obvious solution.

That’s what you get when you don’t do the dishes often enough. Sheesh. If we added electricity to the mess in the kitchen sink we’d probably have a civilization growing there in a month or two.
Well, now it’s razed to the ground. I’ve announced this weekend is Cleaning Weekend. Really need to clean up the mess here. The kitchen looks more presentable now, at least. I’ll hunt down the army of dust puppies gathering in the corners later today.
Saw the screener of The Two Towers with Puh today. Yup, quite good movie. Felt like a natural extension of the first one — the action started right away. Grima Wormtongue looked just as slimy as I expected. People without eyebrows tend to look suspicious…

Redesigned. Again. Still work in progress; will poke at the CSS for a few more days, changing subtle stuff noone but me will notice.
I’ll whip up a new logo as well, the old one looks out of place as it is. In fact, I’ll probably make a header very similar to the one at Plasticbag.
A. A nice, new uncluttered CSS file. Excellent. No more jungle of redundant classes. The idea to have a border on the left side of the entry text was blatantly stolen from Splorp.
Sorry, no sidebar menu at the moment. Too tired to make a new one right now. It’s 4:27 in the morning…
Update: Well, the front page is essentially done. Still no menu, but that’s done with a PHP include from a separate file (so I don’t have to change twenty different files to add an entry to the menu) . Also, the image to the left will be changed. All other pages still use the old layout, so if you liked it you’d better get your fill now before I add the new layout to them as well.

While doing some disk drive archeology, I stumbled across yet another of my abandoned projects, namely to take a fighting scene from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and turn their swords into light sabers using rotoscoping software and some effects in Adobe Aftereffects. This picture is how far I got.
Maybe I’ll try to finish the project some day. It fell to the ground as I couldn’t find a high-resolution source of the movie to work on.

My apprentice, Darth Breki, has drawn yet another person to the dark side. Ambitious, isn’t he? He’d better not hope to replace me as the Dark Lord of the Sith…
Syndirella (found via Mark) is a good RSS aggregator. I’ve switched to it from Feedreader for a while to see how it measures up. Feedreader looks better, but Syndirella has more features. Hopefully Feedreader will be developed faster now that it’s open source.
Breki just redesigned, Mark Pilgrim is in the progress of redesigning stuff, and I’ve considered a redesign for ages. Well, I think I’ll start now. The front page may be a bit flaky at times.

It’s colder than before
the seasons took all they had come for
now winter dances here
it seems so fitting, don’t you think?
to dress the ground in white
and grey
